Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a server and a client. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the alternatives are limited as you will not have root access to the website hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. They are all actions that are performed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

When you have a shared website hosting account with us and you'd like to manage your content remotely using SSH, you could receive SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel.
