The .SE country-code top-level domain was set up in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were obtained. Persons could acquire solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was necessary, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, businesses and organizations could get a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, as a consequence, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.
